We've been hard at work behind the scenes getting prepared for a great year ahead! Here are some of our early highlights in the world of philanthropy -

When Grant Gordon arrived at Red Deer Regional Health Centre’s Rehabilitation Unit 35, he braced himself for a difficult journey ahead. Recovering from a brain injury, he anticipated weeks of grueling therapy. But thanks to an innovative piece of technology, his perspective quickly changed.
Enter the Tovertafel, Dutch for “magic table.”
This interactive system, funded by the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation, combines a projector, infrared sensors, and specialized software to transform tables and floors into dynamic therapy tools. For patients like Gordon, it makes rehabilitation engaging and fun, turning exercises into interactive games that help improve mobility, cognition, and coordination.
“You get a few people watching, cheering, and laughing—it makes it even more fun,” says Gordon.
Since its introduction to Unit 35, the Tovertafel has become a favorite among patients, families, and staff alike. It offers stroke and neurological patients a modern, engaging way to regain movement and confidence. Recreation therapist Letasha Reid notes its unique ability to bring people together. “Patients love that they can play with their family and friends, even when therapists aren’t available,” says Reid.
For Gordon, who has since returned home, the magic table played a key role in his recovery—and changed his view of rehab for the better.
“They’re first-class people, and it’s a first-class operation here,” he says. “It’s really changed my mind about what a place like this can be like.”
The purchase of impactful equipment like The Tover is only possible through the generosity of donors like you. Thank you for continuing to support healthcare in Central Alberta through the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation.
