The Cec & Phyl Holmes Scholarship, established in memory of Phyllis Holmes, is made available annually by Mr. Cec Holmes and the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation. This scholarship fund is available to individuals who are pursuing advanced education in the fields of cardiology or respiratory health medicine and who reside or their permanent address is within 100 kilometers of Red Deer.

 

The scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $5,000 to up to four applicants but may be withheld if a suitable candidate is not identified. Scholarship(s) may cover the following levels of education: 

• Credit course from a certified educational institution (college, university, or technical institution)

• Clinical certification program

• An accredited program in a health-related occupation

 

Eligibility

• Must be enrolled in a program to build skills that could be applied in an acute care setting in the health fields of Cardiology, Respiratory Therapy, or Palliative Care.

• Must have a permanent address within a 100km radius of Red Deer.

• Must be eligible and willing to work within a 100km radius of Red Deer.

• Must be employed by Alberta Health Services.

• Must provide transcripts & confirmation of enrollment from the registrar.

• Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

• Must demonstrate outstanding aptitude and professional ability.

• Preference will be given to applicants who are continuing their education in healthcare after working in the healthcare field.

• The successful candidate(s) must provide his/her social insurance number.

 

Upon meeting all of the above requirements, applicants will be selected according to their demonstrated leadership, participation, and volunteerism in their communities.  Academic ability and propensity to fulfill the aims and purpose of the scholarship will also be considered.

 

Process:

Applications are accepted until March 1st, 2024.
