The Red Deer & Area Staff Association Lifestyles Committee was established to promote and support employee engagement by offering eligible employees an opportunity to participate in social and recreational activities in and out of the workplace, and support employee learning by providing eligible employees funding to participate in personal and/or professional learning. This Committee disbanded in 2015 and desired to establish a lasting legacy for Red Deer-based AHS employees through the establishment of a Legacy Scholarship.
This $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to up to three applicants annually but may be withheld if a suitable candidate is not chosen in any given year. Successful may cover the following levels of education:

Credit course from a certified educational institution (college, university, or technical institution)

Clinical certification program
Eligibility:
The scholarship will be awarded to individuals currently employed by Alberta Health Services (AHS) for a minimum of two years, who hold a part-time or full-time permanent position within a Red Deer-based facility, and are enrolled into an educational program that will enhance their current or future career with AHS. In the event that a suitable candidate is not chosen in any given year, and a case of urgent need in some other area of advanced education in a health-related career is identified, then the disbursement may be considered for this purpose in consultation with the donor.

Must be an AHS employee with a part-time or full-time permanent position with a Red Deer-based facility for a minimum of two years.

Must be enrolled in a program to build skills that could advance their current or future career with AHS and provide verification of enrollment in such a program at a recognized college, university, or technical institution.

If the applicant is eligible for consideration for another Red Deer Regional Health Foundation scholarship, he/she is NOT eligible for the RDASA Lifestyles Scholarship.

Generally, but not limited to, this would include AHS employees who currently work within the following areas:

Unit 23

Unit 32

Licensed Practical Nurse

Healthcare Aide

Unit Clerk

Rehabilitation Services

Pediatrics or Neonatology

Laboratory Services
-
Diagnostic Imaging Services

Cardiology
-
This may also include employees who are currently enrolled in a minimum two year fully accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Nursing, Cardiology, Pulmonary or General Medicine program.

A demonstrated interest in community service, commitment to AHS, and strong work ethic are an asset; high academic achievement is not a necessity

Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

Must have a permanent address within a 100km radius of Red Deer.

The successful candidate must provide his/her social insurance number.
